In its 70-year history, the Walter M. Naumburg Foundation has sponsored competitions for piano, voice and most of the orchestral instruments, but it was only last year that the foundation turned its attention to the guitar. Jorge Caballero, a 19-year-old guitarist from Peru, won the foundation's first guitar competition, and as part of his prize he was presented in his New York debut recital at Merkin Concert Hall. - New York Times, March 1, 1997
